Moving Forward

Philippe Quint, violin
September 29, 2024
3:00 pm
Mount Baker Theatre

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky | Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 (36’)
Jessie Montgomery | Banner (10’)
Igor Stravinsky | Suite from The Firebird 1919 (22’)

Join the orchestra and guest violinist Philippe Quint as we kick off our 49th season with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, a lush, romantic piece — and widely considered one of the best-known violin concertos.

“Truly phenomenal. Quint's tonal opulence, generously inflected with subtle portamentos, sounds like a throwback to the glory days of Fritz Kreisler.” – BBC Music Magazine

Stravinsky’s Firebird was used in Walt Disney’s Fantasia 2000.

Jessie Montgomery won a Grammy Award in 2024 for Rounds.

Jessie Montgomery’s Banner is a rhapsody on the theme of The Star Spangled Banner.

Firebird was written for the 1910 Paris season of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes company.
