Activity -

The Flute

Learn about the flute with Debbie Arthur, Principal Flute of the BSO!

Questions to Consider:

  • How does a flute make sound?
  • What is a flute made out of?
  • How did the different excerpts (pieces of music) make you feel?

Fun at Home!

  • Even if you don't have a flute, you can make a sound like one!
  • Step 1 - Get a glass or plastic bottle.
  • Step 2 - Blow across the opening of the bottle like a flute.
  • Step 3 - To get different notes, try filling the bottle with some water. Does it make the sound go higher or lower? Why do you think that is?
