[BELLINGHAM, WA, June 3, 2025] — The Bellingham Symphony Orchestra and Pickford Film Center have teamed up to activate downtown’s Bay Street in a one-of-a-kind event combining outdoor cinema with live music. This special one-time event, Sunset Flicks, takes place Friday, August 22, 2025. Festivities start at 7:00 p.m. and films begin at sunset.
The free, family-friendly event will include a raffle and prizes, as well as food and drink options for purchase.
The films to be shown are a selection of shorts made between 1902 and 1920. Curated by Spencer Sundell of The Sprocket Society, the program provides a sampler of the entertaining variety to be found in silent movies: hilarious comedy, thrilling action, amazing pre-CGI special effects, and even a cartoon.

Sunset Flicks kicks off a number of summer events that help launch the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra’s year-long celebration as it marks 50 years of making music in Whatcom County. This free event will combine enchanting classical music and unforgettable silent films, creating a rare experience in a fun and accessible setting.
